Sealing Solutions for e-Mobility applications - check out our new film

Electric vehicles are growing rapidly in popularity and are predicted to make up 40% of the total vehicle population by 2030. This though depends on the existence of viable technology extending the range of travel from one battery charge. One specific focus area is increasing the efficiency of e-axle technology.
To support next-generation e-axles, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions engineers have developed a new family of seals: our HiSpin® seals are specially designed to operate at extreme rotational speeds.
Take a look at this film introducing our new HiSpin® seals for eMobility
The HiSpin® Family
We’ve developed two new, high-velocity rotary seals to meet electric car manufacturer demands. The HiSpin® PDR RT and HiSpin® HS40 seals contribute to extending the travel distance of electric cars, helping make the mass adoption of these vehicles a reality, rather than a dream.
- HiSpin® PDR RT – our ultra-high-speed PTFE rotary seal is capable of speeds of 60 m/s and more. The unique design of the sealing lip ensures effective lubrication of the gearbox on one side and a dry motor on the other. The seal offers universal chemical compatibility, high and low temperature capability and can run under dry conditions due to its low friction coefficient.
- HiSpin® HS40 – the unique design of this seal features a bi-directional hydrodynamic lip and has exceptionally low frictional torque at high rotational speeds. The seal is capable of speeds up to 40 m/s. Manufactured from our XLT high-performance fluoroelastomers (FKM), this seal withstands the extreme conditions of electric axle technology.
E-axle technology for electric vehicles
A major technology in electric vehicles is the e-axle, a combined electric motor and gearbox that fits within the traditional engine space. The motor and gearbox are directly coupled, but while the gearbox requires efficient lubrication, it is essential that the motor remains dry. For this reason, a highly reliable seal is required between these two components.
