Closing the competency gap as LNG and alternative fuel transfers scale
Global LNG trade has been at record volumes and looks like it will continue to rise. According to the International Group of LNG Importers (GIIGNL), imports reached 428 million tonnes in 2025, around 5% higher than the 406 million tonnes recorded a year earlier. Signals show that the carrier fleet is expanding to match it, with the orderbook now standing at 42% of the existing fleet and 95 vessels due for delivery in 2026 alone.

The data bottleneck at the quay: Why ports are holding back maritime digitalisation
In this interview with Digital Ship, Tommy Mikkelsen, Managing Director of Navigation and Piloting business at Trelleborg Marine & Infrastructure, discusses the state of digitalization at the port interface, covering data fragmentation across vendor and organizational boundaries, the barriers to just-in-time arrivals, and the role of port call optimization in reducing emissions.

Meet the Pioneers - Matteo Suzzani
Matteo Suzzani's route into LNG ran through onshore transmission equipment, then subsea pipeline laying and repair, before arriving at cryogenic transfer. Twenty years on, he is Managing Director of Trelleborg's Transfer Systems product group and contributes to industry standards including BSI, EN 1474 and ISO 21593.

Ensuring immersed tunnelling assets are fit for the future
As design life expectations push beyond 120 years and sustainability obligations become contractual requirements, the immersed tunnelling industry faces a clear challenge: are its standards, practices, and maintenance models evolving fast enough to match?

Understanding the Navigation Risk Stack: Aging Fleets, Crowded Waters, and Digital Disruption
Commercial shipping faces a convergence of three critical risks. The global fleet is aging dramatically, with vessels operating well beyond their intended lifespans due to delayed replacement cycles. This aging infrastructure is directly linked to a significant surge in maritime safety incidents, compounded by outdated IT systems and structural degradation.

Unlocking the power of uniformity in a shifting LNG market
What can LNG engineering systems learn from the evolution of Microsoft operating platforms, Wi-Fi, or even debit card processing? These vastly different entities have all been through a process of standardization where consistent technologies are used across many products in their respective sectors to improve efficiency. Here we explore how the same concepts can be applied to ship-to-ship transfers to improve speed, safety, and new standards.
