Petroleum cup 2019

For 40 years, passionate sailing volunteers, involved in the French petroleum industry, have organized an annual sailing regatta, in which Trelleborg Offshore regularly participate. The location of the event changes each year, making it a tough contest for participants, as each location provides a range of differing challenges.

This year, the event took place in Marseille from 23 - 27 June. The four-day long event not only includes participation in the sporting challenge at sea, but also offers a great opportunity for us to build relationships with customers through fun and social activities!

There was added excitement to our participation in this year’s event, as we had the opportunity to introduce three beginner sailors. This year, 17 identical boats, with crews of 6-7 people, took part in the event. Whilst we spent four days racing against our friends and colleagues in the offshore industry, spirits remained high.

Competition in the event was fierce and this year we finished the event in 13th place, thanks to a great effort made by the entire crew and I would offer a special thank you to our beginners who joined us for the first time. As the ‘skipper’ of the Trelleborg boat, it was fun introducing the event to these new sailors.

Trelleborg is a world leader in engineered polymer solutions that seal, damp and protect critical applications in demanding environments and it was a good opportunity for the team to better understand some of the harsh environments faced by our customers.
The difficulty of the event ensures that the team work together, helping create a really enjoyable atmosphere. I was really proud of our team spirit and the fantastic learning curve that the crew experienced, and I am certain we can only do better next time!

Thank you to Zoe Murphy, Joshua Chadwick, Andrew Cunningham, James Trafford and Steve Jones for making this year’s event another fantastic experience.
