Trelleborg inaugurates new plant in Shanghai, China

Last week the Trelleborg Group inaugurated a newly constructed manufacturing facility for its Sealing Solutions business area in China’s expansive Shanghai region. The increased production capacity from this state-of-the-art plant means that Trelleborg is now better able to meet increasing demand from industry in China and the rest of Asia. “We are committed to expanding aggressively in Asia,” says Trelleborg President and CEO Peter Nilsson. “This facility continues our strategic investments in the region, and it will be followed by others, in China and in other Asian countries.”

Serving such key markets as aerospace, chemical processing, semiconductors and the oil and gas sectors, many of Trelleborg’s proprietary high technology sealing products will be produced at the Shanghai facility. It will have about 100 employees by the end of the year and the plant, which is designed to meet stringent environmental standards, will have total floor space of 10,000 square meters (107,640 square feet).

“We now have a best-in-class facility with enough capacity to meet growing demand. This marks another stage in strengthening our position in China,” says Claus Barsøe, President of the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions business area. “Alongside manufacturing we will provide full service from the Shanghai site. This will consist of technical support for design and product development, in conjunction with research and testing, for both local and international customers.”

The inauguration on August 16 was attended by guests from all around the world, including the Trelleborg Board of Directors, management and personnel from the Shanghai facility and customers from across the Asia Pacific region and China.
