The ultimate goal for composite manufacturing is fully automated production of complex structures. This is being accomplished with modern additive manufacturing technologies, such as in-situ Automated Fiber Placement. It is a true Out-of-Autoclave process that has been used in serial production for over 25 years to produce high performance composite structures. Newer technologies take advantage of previously unknown aspects of the manufacturing process to greatly expand the potential applications.
