Trelleborg sets new heights with silicone facade sealing solutions

Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, a futuristic skyscraper rising above clouds at sunrise with sleek modern design.
To support the world's first 1 km skyscraper, Trelleborg engineered 1.5 million meters of extruded silicone profiles - built to endure the extreme thermal fluctuations and structural demands of Jeddah Tower, Saudi Arabia.

The challenge

The construction of Jeddah Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, designed to become the tallest building in the world at over one kilometer in height, presented extraordinary engineering and facade sealing challenges.

A structure of this scale requires highly reliable sealing solutions capable of withstanding extreme environmental conditions, structural movement, and long-term durability requirements. In addition, the project demanded rapid development and manufacturing capabilities, including multiple new extrusion dies and the ability to deliver the first production shipment within a tight three-week timeframe.

The complexity of sealing a 252-floor skyscraper and ensuring consistent performance across the entire building envelope made this a technically demanding and high-profile project.

The Trelleborg solution

Trelleborg was selected to supply all silicone facade sealing profiles for the tower’s building envelope, delivering advanced sealing solutions specifically engineered for high-performance architectural facade systems.

The scope of supply includes approximately 1.5 million meters of extruded silicone profiles, utilizing more than 400,000 lbs of silicone material across nearly 30 different silicone and plastic components.

Products supplied

  • Custom extruded silicone facade sealing profiles
  • Multiple profile geometries developed specifically for the project
  • Silicone and plastic sealing components for façade systems

Key product features and technical requirements

  • High-performance silicone materials designed for long-term durability
  • Excellent resistance to extreme temperatures, UV exposure, and environmental stress
  • Precision-engineered extrusion profiles for reliable facade sealing
