SuperSealer Chuiyan Mo (Molly)
This month's SuperSealer is a relative newcomer to the world of seals and profiles, but she's already making an impact by building strong relationships with colleagues and customers around the world. She tells us how her interest in the management of drinking water and wastewater is turning into a lifelong passion and how, a year into her career at Trelleborg, chemicals with long letters are starting to look a little less scary.
Who are you?
My name is Chuiyan Mo (Molly). I'm an Internal Sales and Business Development Associate for Trelleborg Seals & Profiles, based in Hong Kong.
How long have you worked in this position and what are your key duties?
This is my first role with Trelleborg; I joined the company in June 2022, so I've been here for just over a year. I am currently working with the "3 PAs" – Pipe Repair, Pipe Seals and Seals & Profiles – within the group and my focus is on account management and sales and marketing activities for the APAC region.
What do you like most about working with Trelleborg?
I especially enjoy working with colleagues involved in drinking water and wastewater management, which is a topic I'm very interested in. Since joining Trelleborg, I've learned so much about the industry and I'm beginning to understand how my work contributes to water conservation and environmental protection.
I also like our strong focus on teamwork as an organization and how this is part of the everyday experience at Trelleborg. As part of my role, I work closely with technicians, engineers, chemists, and sales and marketing experts to deliver quality solutions and services to our customers, which is amazing.
And it's not just about connecting with people in my own office: through T-Talk, T-Time and our other social media channels, I can keep up to date with what my colleagues around the world are doing, as well as our company-wide goals and developments.
What are the key challenges you face in your job?
Trelleborg's work is very complex. It takes time to learn about machines when I have no idea what they're used for, or chemicals with very long letters. Especially when I have to explain to my clients how to use them!
Fortunately, Trelleborg has a very good learning and recording system for each product, so I can easily find the information I need with clear instructions on the T-Talk platform. And I have colleagues who are leading experts in their field, so that's a great help too!
How do you think the business in your area is going to evolve in the future?
Right now, more than 80% of my work is linked to pipe repair and pipe seals side, which are related to our drinking and wastewater management business. Of course, these have been key issues for society since the beginning of human civilization, and their importance will only increase in a world facing a growing population and scarcer resources.
Through the different customers and experts, I have a front-row seat to the water and wastewater industry developments taking place across Asia.
In markets such as China, Hong Kong, Japan and India, governments are working with private companies to push for technological improvements and applications that can ensure the availability of safe drinking water. In mainland China, for example, the number of companies involved in cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) technologies has tripled in the last five years. It's really encouraging to hear about the progress that's happening beneath our feet, even if most people aren't aware of it.
I'm excited to have the opportunity to continue to learn about this fascinating industry and help raise awareness about the importance of water management.
What do you do with your free time?
I love spending time with my two dogs. They love to hike and chase birds in the woods (although they never really succeed). I also enjoy making scented candles in my kitchen, listening to good jazz and swing dancing, doing yoga, and playing squash. Recently, I've also taken an interest in cooking – I love exploring different recipes for making simple but delicious food!
