Trelleborg investments to create a platform for growth in graphics industry in Brazil

Through its Trelleborg Engineered Systems business area, Trelleborg has decided to invest in specialized production of printing blankets in Brazil, aimed at creating a platform for local presence and growth in the graphics industry. The investment will be in a new plant that Trelleborg will also use to produce specially designed oil hoses for surface and deep-sea applications, which have been communicated through a separate press release today, March 14, 2011.

“The graphics industry is a growing and highly attractive market, and an increased presence in South and Latin America is central to our growth strategy,” says Lennart Johansson, President of the Trelleborg Engineered Systems business area. “Currently, we already rank as one of the three largest players in printing blankets in Latin America, a position which we intend to strengthen through our own onsite production located close to our customers. We are establishing advanced production of printing blankets in a modern plant that is excellently located, and we are also gaining an advantage in that the plant can serve as a base for other product areas”.

The plant is located in Santana de Parnaiba, near São Paulo. Trelleborg will invest a total of approximately SEK 45 M in production capacity in 2011 and 2012. It is anticipated that production can commence gradually by the first half of 2012.

Printing blankets are used by the graphics industry for offset printing in many applications, such as newspapers, books, brochures and packaging material. Trelleborg has a leading position in printing blankets under the brand names Vulcan® and Rollin®.

The Trelleborg Group currently has 1,000 employees in Brazil and is established in technology development, production and sales in the country.
