Are you ready for France’s strict new rules about rubber and food contact?

In France, amended regulations about the contact of rubber with food (the arrêté of August 5th, 2020) ; it has been in effect since July 1rst, 2021.
The new rules are stricter, reflecting the latest scientific knowledge and food safety requirements.
Overall, the list of raw materials and ingredients that are allowed to be in contact with rubber are stricter.Also mandated for the first time:
• the measurement of heavy metals;
• a specific indication when a product is made of natural rubber;
• and a declaration of conformity that includes not just information about the substances used but the conditions under which the product should be stored.
Unlike plastic, rubber is not regulated on the European Union level so local regulations apply.
