Trelleborg helps bring the Hard Rock's iconic Guitar Hotel to life on the Las Vegas Strip

When Harmon Inc. set out to build the curtain wall system for the guitar-shaped centerpiece of the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, the geometry alone ruled out standard sealing profiles. Trelleborg partnered with Harmon's design team from the earliest stages, developing more than 25 custom extrusion dies and a broad mix of rubber and thermoplastic materials to seal, dampen and protect a facade unlike almost anything else on the Strip.

The challenge

The Hard Rock's signature "guitar" building is one of the most visually distinctive structures under construction in Las Vegas today, and its curved, sculptural form put unusual demands on the curtain wall contractor. Rather than a repeating grid of flat panels, the facade needed to follow continuous contours around the building's exterior envelope, which meant the sealing systems behind it had to be custom-engineered rather than pulled from a standard catalog.

On top of the geometry, the project had to hold up to the Mojave Desert's extreme heat and wide daily temperature swings, placing real demands on material selection and thermal performance. Combining a one-of-a-kind architectural shape with a punishing climate, on a project that will reshape a landmark stretch of the Strip, made this one of the more technically ambitious facade programs Trelleborg has supported in the region.

The Trelleborg solution

Trelleborg worked hand-in-hand with Harmon's engineering team throughout design and pre-construction, ultimately tooling over 25 custom dies to match the building's curtain wall geometry. The scope of supply spanned silicone and EPDM rubber profiles alongside a range of TPO components used as thermal breaks and adaptors, engineered to satisfy local AAMA and NFRC performance requirements.

To validate performance before full production, Trelleborg ran multiple FEA simulations during the development and mock-up phase, allowing the team to confirm how each profile would behave under real building loads and temperature extremes before committing to tooling.

Result & Value

Trelleborg's design and technical input shaped every phase of pre-construction, helping Harmon confirm that each profile would meet performance requirements well before installation began. Keeping tooling development and material deliveries on schedule to Harmon's fabrication facility in Texas was essential to keeping the wider construction program on track.

The project builds on a partnership between Trelleborg and Harmon spanning decades of high-profile commercial work, and the two teams drew on an existing library of standard sealing profiles even while developing entirely new designs for this facade. That combination of responsiveness and established trust is what led Harmon to bring Trelleborg onto a project with this much visibility on the Strip.
