Going 100% renewable

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions is going all out to reduce its carbon-footprint by consuming 100% renewable electricity.

The Trelleborg Sealing Solutions manufacturing facility in Helsingor, Denmark, uses around 5,000,000 KwH of electricity annually. That’s equivalent to the consumption of around 1,600 households yearly.

From the standard Danish vendor, around 20 to 40 percent of the electricity produced originates from coal and oil sources, which has a negative impact on sustainability. The Helsingor site has therefore taken a stand for the environment and chosen to buy 100 percent certified green energy coming exclusively from sources such as wind, water and the sun.

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions sites in the UK also worked together on an energy strategy to support sustainability and be more environmentally aware. They appointed a new supplier that resulted in all major UK sites using 100% renewable electricity.

Tony Collingwood, General Manager of the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions in Tewkesbury, says: “The Energy specific projects in the UK have not only made an impact to how much we use and spend, they have also been successful in raising awareness of sustainability among the broader team here in Tewkesbury. It is a real benefit to be able to say that all of our electricity comes from renewable sources and I have seen firsthand the positive way that customers respond when they are told.”

These initiatives contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular 7 Affordable and Clean Energy and 11 Sustainability Cities and Communities.
