Trelleborg seals role in new skyline around the Shard
Customized sealing profiles from Trelleborg will feature in a new residential building currently taking shape at Shard Place in London.
The 27-story building is part of the Shard Place project, a development area in the capital’s London Bridge Quarter surrounding the 310-meter-tall Shard, which became an instantly recognizable landmark when it opened in 2013.
Renzo Piano, the architect of the Shard, has designed the new building, which will feature a double skin-facade that includes wooden doors and windows in aluminium frame elements.
Trelleborg’s partner on the project is Scheldebouw, the Dutch subsidiary of the Permasteelisa Group, a world leader in facades for skyscrapers.
Paul Neveux, Sales Manager at Trelleborg Sealing Profiles, says the order required a customized solution in all aspects, “It is a job that requires sealing profiles with very specific materials, colours and shapes. There will be 24 customized seals. Some of these will be used in seven different frames, which join together four different seals in a rectangular unit to ensure perfect sealing performance.”
The customized seals are now in the validation phase and delivery to the customer is planned to commence in February 2107. The new building at Shard Place is expected to be finished in the third quarter of 2017.
