SuperSealer Matthias Peppel
June’s SuperSealer is an effective connecting force between multiple departments, a shrewd observer of market trends, and a keen amateur golfer in his spare time! Below, he discusses his four-year anniversary at Trelleborg, how he stays ahead of key trends in the consumables market, and what he appreciates most about our company culture.
Who are you?
My name is Matthias Peppel, and I’m Product Manager Consumables at Trelleborg Pipe Repair in Germany.
How long have you worked in this position and what are your key duties?
I joined in June 2016, so it’s almost exactly four years since I arrived at Trelleborg! I’ve been in my current role since 2019; my key duties include managing our consumables across departments and placing them on the market in a targeted manner. I plan, manage, and control our consumables as a coordination point for various departments, such as development, sales, and marketing. My tasks also include identifying market trends and further developing our product range.
What do you like most about working with Trelleborg?
I really enjoy interfacing with lots of different teams at Trelleborg; this gives me the chance to connect with a wide range of colleagues and make a big impact across the company. At the same time, I always appreciate the strong camaraderie and support from my colleagues. It makes a big difference to work in such a collaborative, friendly atmosphere!
What are the key challenges you face in your job?
Recognizing market trends is certainly a challenge, especially when you must spot them early! That’s why I stay up to date with all the latest developments in the consumables market, using every resource at my disposal to see which way the wind is blowing. Other than that, getting certification for a product range can be a tricky part of my job, as we need to comply with constantly evolving regulatory standards.
How do you think the business in your area is going to evolve in the future?
Right now, the biggest trend in my business area is light curing. This approach offers high strength reinforcement without reducing the diameter of the host pipe, while also maintaining a high flow capacity. It’s already making a big impact in my area of business, and I expect that to continue in the years to come.
How are you preparing for this?
The good news is that we’ve recognized the trend early on, and we’re developing the right products, such as pipe liners and resins, to meet demand in this area. Having taken this proactive approach, we’re well positioned in the marketplace going forward, and I’m optimistic about what the future holds for our business.
What do you do in your free time?
I greatly appreciate spending quality time with my family. Whether we’re going on holiday or simply enjoying an evening meal, I cherish the moments we spend together. If I happen to have a bit of spare time, you might also find me on the golf course, working on my handicap!
