Compliance with Chinese Food Safety Regulations

Now Trelleborg Sealing Solutions is the first global seal manufacturer to have products compliant with new Chinese food safety regulations GB 9685 and GB 4806.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

Trelleborg EPDM complies to standards:

  • GB 4806.1-2016 general safety requirements of food contact materials and articles
  • GB 9685-2016 standard for the use of additives for food contact materials
  • GB 36603-2015 general manufacturing hygiene practices for food contact materials and articles
  • GB 4806.11 food contact rubber and articles As well as FDA 21 CFR, EU 1935/2004, USP87/88

Now Trelleborg Sealing Solutions is the first global seal manufacturer to have products certified in accordance with new Chinese food safety regulations GB 9685 and GB 4806.

IN OCTOBER 2016, China introduced the Food Contact Material and Articles (FCMA) regulations applicable to machinery and plant manufacturers for the Chinese market, specifying substances that may be used in seals for food processing; in processing equipment, packaging devices and filling lines.

Meeting stringent tests

Mikkel Moerup, European Segment Director Food, Beverage & Potable Water at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, explains:
“We have developed and manufactured sealing solutions for the food and beverage industry for over fifty years and these must by necessity meet strict international regulations. With the introduction of the new FCMA regulations in China, our customers supplying equipment to the country’s food and beverage industry need to be sure that seals comply with the latest requirements for safe and hygienic processing, filling and packaging of foodstuffs.”

Standing up to extreme environments

Highly durable, these EPDM materials are particularly suitable for those plants that implement Cleaning In Place (CIP) and Sterilization In Place (SIP) regimes, as well as those that use disinfectants or hot steam to protect products from contamination. These include manufacturers of dairy products, infant and baby food, aqueous and fatty food, as well as alcohol.

While the three EPDMs are primarily used in processes involving food contact, this successful certification now leads Mikkel Moerup to foresee further registrations covering other areas of application.
