TRELLEBORG, SWEDEN – May, 8 2019: Trelleborg’s engineered coated fabrics operation will debut a new polyurethane-coated smart textile at its booth at Techtextil in Frankfurt, Germany, May 14-17, 2019.
Developed in the U.K., in the patented process a smart textile is transfer coated with a Dartex® Endurance polyurethane coating. When incorporated into a medical mattress cover, the whole textile becomes a pressure map, alerting the patient and carer if the patient needs repositioning; a critical step in helping to prevent avoidable pressure ulcers.
Andreas Renulf, Business Unit President of Trelleborg’s engineered coated fabrics operation, says: “The engineered coated fabrics business is at the forefront of innovative technologies, and this is a great example of how our capabilities, combined with industry insight, can help to address significant global healthcare issues.”
Mark Jones, General Manager of the Trelleborg coated fabrics manufacturing facility in Nottingham, England, says: “This is a game-changing innovation for the healthcare and medical industry. With the whole support surface cover acting as the sensor, there is no need for an additional bulky layer between the support surface and the patient; making the patient more comfortable and helping to reduce the possibility of the patient developing an avoidable pressure ulcer.”
Techtextil is an international trade show, taking place May 14-17, 2019, at the Messe Frankfurt, Germany. Trelleborg will be exhibiting at booth # 3.0 A37.
