When Philippe Verstraete first arrived at the Clermont-Ferrand facility in 1990, his ambition to be part of something groundbreaking was clear. He joined the team working on the "T120" project, an ambitious initiative to design a 120-meter production line for industrial hoses, combining automation and innovation on a scale that matched his passion for engineering. This experience set the stage for a remarkable career that would span more than three decades.
Driving transformation
Throughout his career, Philippe embraced a rhythm of regular reinvention, taking on new roles every five to eight years. From managing large maintenance teams to leading a major production unit and eventually expanding his focus to international project leadership, he continually sought out new challenges and learning opportunities. This dynamic approach fueled his personal growth and contributed to Trelleborg’s ongoing evolution.Philippe’s commitment to driving transformation was perhaps most visible during his leadership of complex projects that tested both his technical and managerial skills. The demanding assignment required him to balance organizational, social and operational complexities while merging two rival factories. He also spearheaded the first Hoshin workshop in the Oil & Marine Production unit, a pivotal move that doubled the unit’s capacity and set the foundation for what would become Trelleborg’s Manufacturing
Excellence program
As Trelleborg expanded its footprint around the globe, Philippe played a key role in supporting projects and implementing group standards in diverse regions, including Brazil, Turkey, China, Malaysia and Australia. His willingness to adapt, lead by example and share knowledge ensured that the company’s values and commitment to excellence resonated across cultures and teams.Advice for Future Generations
