When planning and constructing wooden ceilings, special attention must be paid to sound insulation. This is because irritating noises can easily be transmitted through the construction. The STG soundproofing seal from the Trelleborg product range can improve the situation here. Made of robust EPDM rubber, it effectively minimises the transmission of impacting sound.

With their low mass per unit area, wooden joist ceilings can cause undesirable sound transmission. It is therefore important to select appropriate ceiling structures and take suitable measures to improve acoustic insulation. Trelleborg has developed the STG soundproofing seal especially for impacting the sound insulation in wooden floors. It is made of black EPDM – a durable and high-quality cellular rubber. A choice of cellular or solid rubber seals is available to suit the type of application. The version with cellular rubber is used inside the ceiling structure. The seal is placed between the wooden floor and the wooden joists and continues through to the outer walls. This reduces the generation and transmission of sound into the next storey. The solid rubber STG seal, on the other hand, is used at the transition from wall to ceiling. It can also be laid along the entire length of the wall to prevent sound from being transferred from the ceiling to the wall.

The two versions of the STG seal can be used to effectively block the paths taken by footfall sound through wooden ceilings. The seals are under continuous development to optimize the quality of the acoustic insulation. They are installed without the use of tacks or nails. If required, they can be glued in place.
