Plymouth, MN, December 2025 – Trelleborg Medical Solutions announces the grand opening of its new 107,600 square feet/10,000 square meter manufacturing facility in Costa Rica’s Evolution Free Zone Industrial Park. As the company’s first facility in Central America, it will facilitate supply chain continuity through a global manufacturing and distribution base and support key customers in nearshoring production.
Linda Muroski, President of Trelleborg Medical Solutions, says: “We want to provide customers with finished medical devices, components and assemblies in one location. By producing the components at a single site and moving them to assembly under one roof, we reduce freight costs and management of multiple vendors for our customers, saving them money so they can be more competitive and profitable. We are creating reliable solutions that empower our customers to deliver life-saving medical devices to patients all over the world.”
Capabilities offered at the facility in the town of Grecia, Alajuela Province, include liquid silicone rubber molding, dipping, thermoplastic production and assembly to support key initiatives and growth plans of customers in critical healthcare and medical applications. It also features cleanroom production and is designed to meet stringent industry-specific standards for medical device manufacturing.
“Strategically, Costa Rica’s location gives us the reach and responsiveness to support North American, European and global markets directly - delivering precisely what the industry demands, when it is needed,” Muroski continues. “Costa Rica has a strong pool of highly skilled professionals, backed by robust technical education and training initiatives supported by the government. This enables us to deliver consistent quality in medical manufacturing and positions the site as a leader in high-value, specialized production.”
The facility's location in Costa Rica's evolution Free Zone Industrial Park reflects Trelleborg's commitment to responsible operations and is part of Trelleborg’s vision to operate on net zero emissions by the end of 2035.
Yonatan Necoechea, Costa Rica Project Sponsor and President of Trelleborg Medical Device Solutions Operations, says: “The new facility is designed for long-term sustainability, incorporating features such as solar-ready roofing, energy efficient building systems and landscaping that conserves water.
“We are committed to achieving Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification and have prioritized environmental stewardship from the earliest stages of planning through to construction. Every element of this facility - from its eco-friendly materials to advanced resource management systems - demonstrates our ongoing dedication to responsible growth.”
Evolution Industrial Park is located with direct access to the country's main highways and port and is near Juan Santamaria International Airport. In addition, it is situated no more than 30 minutes away from Costa Rica’s main western cities, providing access to a large workforce with outstanding technical and academic qualifications.
