Sky Tower in Poland
Trelleborg designed highly sophisticated, customized seals for the Aluprof aluminum facade systems used in Poland’s tallest building.
“There are very high demands placed on the seals used in the aluminum and glass facades for high-rise buildings,” says Adam Mękarski of Trelleborg Sealing Profiles in Poland. “They have to dampen sound, prevent draughts, protect from moisture and absorb structural movement. The big challenge is to find practical solutions to meet the visions of creative architects, so every seal has to be customized.”
Trelleborg worked closely with Aluprof, one of the leading European distributors of aluminum systems for the construction industry, to develop 11 different customized facade seals for Sky Tower. Over 200,000 meters of sealing profiles were supplied for the Aluprof facade elements.
Sky Tower, Poland’s tallest building, is the only skyscraper in the city of Wroclaw. The 51-story, 212-meter-high mixed-use building is a complex of offices, shops, residential apartments and restaurants.
“The Sky Tower project was a special challenge – it required very sophisticated seals for very sophisticated shapes. The seals are extremely large and many of them are multi-chambered,” states Adam.
Although Trelleborg has partnered with Aluprof on sealing projects for over 10 years, Sky Tower was the first joint skyscraper project.
“The Sky Tower project showed what can be achieved using Trelleborg engineering knowhow,” concludes Adam. “We are very pleased to have continued our partnership with Aluprof on other international high-rise projects – projects that all call for very sophisticated facade seals.”
