The harsh environments presented by the offshore world require equipment to operate safely and effectively while providing peace of mind. As technological developments revolutionize the offshore industry, the need for high performance, robust and dependable solutions has increased. As such, greater performance demands are placed on equipment and machinery. This is not only putting pressure on products to perform to stricter specifications, but also to last longer and guarantee user safety in dangerous environments.
In March 2013 the American Petroleum Institute (API) released specifications 17L1 for flexible pipe ancillary equipment and 17L2 recommended practice for flexible pipe ancillary equipment. The API 17L standard covers all materials, design, testing, making and packaging of flexible pipe ancillary equipment, including buoyancy modules, clamping systems, bend stiffeners and restrictors. The standard covers all materials, design, testing and manufacturing methodologies used in the system to provide uplift of up to 4.65Te at water depths up to 10,000ft.
