Wind Turbines
Wind energy as a power source is favored as an alternative to fossil fuels, as it is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean and produces lower greenhouses gas emissions.
Offshore wind farms are often preferred over onshore farms. In that case, each turbine’s tower rests on a pile foundation, usually a monopile or a tripod. During installation of the upper part, the tower is positioned over or in the pile. The space between tower and the pile is sealed by a rubber seal. On top of the seal grout is injected in order to make a solid connection. This construction method secures the perfect vertical position of the tower. Because of the application, the seal is called a grout seal. Trelleborg is specialized in the design and supply of active (inflatable seal) and passive (lip seal) grout seals. With the increasing size of the power substations, a float over process is increasingly used. In the float over process, a topside structure is installed onto an in-situ base structure (e.g. jacket). Our Leg Mating Units are a critical part of this mating process.
