Trelleborg’s pipe seals operation has been awarded two critically acclaimed International Standards for quality and environmental performance, demonstrating the company’s commitment to continuous improvement across all its operations.
Trelleborg is among the first to adopt and gain recognition for both the newly-revised ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015. Awarded for quality management systems and environmental management respectively, the two standards were brought closer together through a common structure in late 2015. The company’s two R&D and logistics centers in Lelystad (The Netherlands) and Duisburg (Germany) were both accredited in-line with the new standards for the development and sale of its rubber and plastic pipe seals and rehabilitation products.
Bill Hagenburg, Business Unit President for Trelleborg's pipe seals operation, commented; “Businesses and people rely on a global infrastructure of quality water and wastewater pipelines to keep the world’s water moving. It is therefore pivotal that our seals and rehabilitation products perform and continue to improve to maintain the highest quality.
“Our comprehensive in-house process is designed to ensure engineering excellence throughout our business, taking customers’ solutions from design to installation and beyond. We’re committed to quality and environmental performance, and it’s embedded at the highest levels and in everything we do.”
The company was independently audited and awarded the certification at the end of July. The assessments were done within days of each other across every aspect of the organisation involving staff at all levels.
Placing more emphasis on leadership and management commitment, the two standards require greater involvement by managers and business leaders in controlling and integrating the management systems. In addition, the 2015 revision of ISO 9001 also places greater importance on risk management, compliance management and continuous improvement.
"The success of any management system relies upon the engagement and understanding of everyone throughout the business. The new standards have been brought right up-to-date with today's connected world, making them more relevant for modern businesses. For us to achieve the new accreditations in such a short period of time is phenomenal and a credit to the team's hard work to drive up quality and environmental performance, whilst reducing waste and our overall environmental impact."
