Trelleborgs sustainability goals

Trelleborg has several sustainability-related targets that enhance the position as a sustainability leader in its industry. The sustainability agenda is based on recurring materiality assessments, through which we continuously identify and evaluate the expectations of our stakeholder groups. Our Double Materiality Assessment forms the foundation of our work on material sustainability matters within environmental, social and governance (ESG) areas.

Trelleborg’s sustainability agenda is based on recurring materiality assessments that have been conducted since 2007, primarily with the help of surveys and interviews of internal and external stakeholders. Since 2024, we execute a Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) in accordance with the requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

FAQ – General Sustainability

  • What are Trelleborg’s sustainability targets?
    Trelleborg has several sustainability-related targets that enhance the position as a sustainability leader in its industry. The double materiality analysis forms the basis for Trelleborg's work on significant issues in the areas of environment, social, and governance.

    •  In the Environmental area, there are science based climate targets to reduce the Group’s carbon emissions, targets to further increase the proportion of renewable/fossil-free electricity, and a circularity target to increase the proportion of recycled or bio-based raw materials.

    •  In the Social area, there is a target within health and safety focused on reducing work-related accidents. There is also a target within local development that includes projects where the Group supports local communities, a supplier target that requires suppliers to conduct a self-assessment in accordance with Trelleborg's Code of Conduct, and a diversity target that illustrates Trelleborg's strive for a balanced gender distribution.

    •  In the Governance area, there are targets for zero tolerance toward violations of business conduct regulations, anti-bribery and corruption legislation, and training targets for employees to meet in this area.

    In addition to the externally communicated sustainability targets, Trelleborg has several internal intermediate targets and activities in each area that support efforts to achieve the overall targets. In Trelleborg’s annual Sustainability Reports, Trelleborg’s work with each material matter is described in relation to policies, measures, targets and the year’s outcome.

FAQ Environment

  • How does Trelleborg responsibly manage water usage in its operations?
    Trelleborg's operations have a limited dependency on water, as the production of the Group's solutions requires relatively little water. Despite this limited dependency, the ambition is to reduce the total water usage within the Group, which is achieved through targeted initiatives.

    Significant reductions in water usage are continuously made and are included as one of the general environmental key performance indicators reported for all facilities where water is primarily used for cooling and washing in the manufacturing processes. Reduced usage is most critical at production sites where water scarcity exists or is expected, such as in China, the USA, and Malta.

    The primary data source for assessing Trelleborg's impact on water resources in areas with high water stress levels is risk assessments made with the WWF Water Risk Filter tool. In the 2025 analysis, the area of limited water resources was not deemed material.

  • How does the Group's work contribute to preserving biodiversity?
    The work to preserve biodiversity is carried out both by improving the environment around existing facilities and through thorough environmental analyses when establishing new ones.

    Trelleborg follows local regulations to protect and preserve biodiversity during the establishment, expansion, and manufacturing of its operations. The Group will continue to map the specific situation of each facility and initiate discussions and local initiatives for biodiversity in the surrounding area by, for example, creating outdoor environments that attract pollinators.

    The primary data source for assessing Trelleborg's negative impacts on biodiversity is risk assessments made with the WWF Biodiversity Risk Filter tool. In the 2025 materiality analysis, the area of biodiversity was not deemed material.

FAQ Social 

  • How are employees' health and safety prioritized?
    Trelleborg has a zero-accident vision that guides all safety initiatives and programs aimed at preventing and minimizing risks of injuries and accidents.

    The health and safety of the company’s own workforce and insourced staff have always been a priority for Trelleborg. The safety work is primarily conducted through the long-standing programs Manufacturing Excellence and Safety@Work, which strive to prevent and minimize risks of injuries and accidents.

    The target is to continuously reduce work-related injuries that lead to more than one day's absence – Lost Work Cases (LWC). In 2026, a new target will be set for this area. Each year, a global Safety Day is also held with various activities around the world to highlight the importance of safety.

    In addition, Trelleborg works on preventive measures for mental and physical health.

  • How does the Group ensure responsible management and reporting of risks and potential violations related to human rights?
    Trelleborg has zero tolerance for human rights violations in both its own operations and those of direct suppliers, as explicitly stated in the Group's Code of Conduct. Due diligence in the sustainability area is the process through which Trelleborg ensures that both actual and potential negative impacts on people caused by the business are managed and reported.

    Trelleborg's current processes have been developed in collaboration with Save the Children regarding child labor and Transparency International regarding guidelines for, among other things, anti-corruption.

    A well-developed whistleblower function and policy allow every employee and external stakeholder to anonymously and without repercussions report suspected legal or regulatory violations and serious breaches of the Code of Conduct in their own language.

    An example of an action is in-depth analyses of individual suppliers based on purchase value, geographical location, and industry/product category. With the help of an external system, the analyses are conducted and evaluated by the procurement organization. Further actions will be defined on an ongoing basis, such as dialogue with suppliers, support with action plans, possible visits, and, as a last resort, termination of the relationship.

FAQ Governance 

  • How is the Group's Code of Conduct used as a tool to ensure responsible business practices?
    For many years, Trelleborg has had a well-established process requiring suppliers, sales representatives, distributors, and consultants to adopt the principles outlined in the Group's Code of Conduct, with the goal of working only with those who commit to following the Code.

    The Code of Conduct reflects our support and operation in accordance with the ten principles of the UN Global Compact, the general views expressed in the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, the OECD guidelines for multinational enterprises, and the UN Declaration of Human Rights.

    A review with self-assessment must be conducted for at least 90 percent of the reported relevant purchase value, including new and established supplier relationships.

  • Does Trelleborg have certified environmental management systems at its production units?
    Trelleborg meets or exceeds local environmental laws in all countries where it operates. Most of Trelleborg's significant production units also have certified environmental management systems.

    The ambition is for all significant production units to implement and maintain a certified environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001, as described in the Group's Environmental Policy. In addition to ISO 14001, several units within the Trelleborg Group also work with OHSAS 18001, ISO 13485, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001.

  • How do well-established frameworks contribute to an effective risk management and mapping process?
    The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) process constitutes a framework that provides a comprehensive overview of Trelleborg's risks, enabling follow-up and understanding of how they should be managed.

    Trelleborg has also conducted a double materiality analysis, which forms part of the overall risk assessment.
