“Present the Future” - Trelleborg Kicks off Childcare Project to Support Neglected Children in Rural Areas in China

On October 14, 2019, Trelleborg Wheel Systems launched “Present the Future”, a childcare charity project to support neglected children in rural areas in China, together with China’s most influential childcare foundation, the Soong Ching Ling Foundation. Trelleborg Wheel Systems will donate 10 childcare centers to the foundation and in addition it will work with professionals to support children’s psychological counseling.

UNICEF data shows that there are just under 69 million neglected children in China. These are children who remain in rural regions of China, while their parents leave to work in urban areas. In many cases, these children are taken care of by relatives, usually by grandparents or family friends. However, the children face developmental and emotional challenges as a result of the limited interaction with their biological parents.

The Soong Ching Ling Foundation is a people's and public welfare organization named after Madame Soong Ching Ling, which has carried out research and studies to better understand left-behind children. Based on its findings, the foundation has focused on solving the problems of lack of parental care, falling interest in learning and inadequate family guardianship. The foundation launched its action of care for left-behind children in August 2019, which aims to enable these children to enjoy a happy childhood and healthy growth.

Tang Jianjun, Deputy Director General of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, said: “After the launch of the project, our foundation received support from Trelleborg Group. It will cooperate with us in a charity project named ‘Present the Future’. The project plans to build 10 children care centers in schools over three years.”

Paolo Pompei, President of Trelleborg, said: “Since we began production in China, we believed that it was not only important to support the market with tire technology but also the users of our tires; the forklift, tractor and mining machine operators. This project targets kids who cannot have the full attention from their parents. We want to support these children so that they feel they have been loved by society and can enjoy their childhood.”

Peter Nilsson, Paolo Pompei and Tang Jianjun along with Li Youji, Vice President of the China Association of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers, Zhang Jie, Secretary General of China Construction Machinery Association, and Anders Wollter, Minister Counsellor of Embassy of Sweden kicked off the “Present the Future” project with representatives from the China trade association and customers of Trelleborg attending the event.
