After nearly a decade with Trelleborg, our November SuperSealer has witnessed plenty of changes and developments during his career so far. Now, when he’s not out exploring Tijuana on his bike, he’s looking ahead to future challenges and keeping up to date with new trends and technologies.
Who are you?
My name is Felix Zamora, I’m 30 years old and I’m a Process Engineer at Trelleborg Pipe Seals in Tijuana, Mexico.
How long have you been in your position? What are your key duties?
I’ve been in my current role for around four years. I am responsible for the introduction of new products, for the continuous improvement of our production processes, and for looking after our machine operators at the Tijuana site. I have also been involved in the transfer of products from Europe to our plant in Mexico, as well as providing technical support to different departments related to production.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
I joined Trelleborg in 2010, working my way up through different roles and departments to where I am today. I’ve enjoyed playing a role in the company’s growth and development over this period. In particular, I’ve been involved in developing new technologies and manufacturing methods, as well as the transfer of new products from overseas. Our commercial strategy has evolved alongside this – it means we are continually able to offer our customers improvements in delivery times and quality.
What are the biggest challenges you face in your job?
As a Process Engineer, my biggest challenge involves being able to guarantee high-quality products for our customers while also maintaining the productivity and efficiency of our internal processes. This can mean anything from ensuring good man-machine interaction stability to making sure we optimize our use of rubber material and keep waste to a minimum.
How do you see your business area developing in the future? How are you preparing for this?
We face a number of challenges over the coming years. Many of these challenges are linked to technological developments taking place in our industry – for example, the introduction of new machinery and communication interfaces, and the growing use of robots and automated processes. Preparing for these means having our finger on the pulse: we need to be constantly researching these new technologies and building up our knowledge. To remain at the forefront of our industry, we also need to be looking at how to integrate new products and materials into our service offering.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I like spending time with friends and family and visiting new places. One of the advantages of living in Baja California is that it’s easy to explore different parts of the United States, and to get to know people and cultures from all over the world. I also enjoy cycling, particularly in the summer evenings when Tijuana is at its most beautiful.
