West Lancashire College held their annual Interactive Careers Fair on Wednesday 13 May, whose goal is to inspire pupils and college students in their future career paths. Students enjoyed finding out about careers ranging from set design in theatres to careers in West Lancashire District Council including activities in engineering, offshore drilling and computer game design.
Local employers were invited to attend and as a leading employer in the area, Trelleborg Offshore recognized the importance of giving back to the local community as part of our commitment to corporate and social responsibility. We supported the event by promoting careers in Engineering and Materials Science to the young people of Lancashire by showing the students how Trelleborg products and solutions work offshore.
On the Trelleborg stand, manned by Loraine Parr, Anna Blackburn and David Williams, we showcased a product model, designed by David (pictured below), which proved extremely popular. The model consisted of a 170 liter tank, filled with water and fitted with a line float. Ball bearings representing the moving oil in the water. Trelleborg buoyancy modules were included in the model to illustrate how they would appear in an offshore application.
The event was attended by over 1,000 students and was a huge success.
