We recently asked our Retford based employees to select a Charity of the Year from 3 local charities to support in 2018. After tallying the nomination forms, Bluebell Wood received over 90% of the votes. Although none of our employees have personal ties to the charity, most of our employees have young children or grandchildren and believes the charity and the services it provides to children and their families is amazing. We plan to support Bluebell Wood for the duration of 2018 and all fundraising activities held or participated in by our Retford employees will be donated to the charity.
Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice is a registered charity offering palliative care and support to families who have a child or young person with a shortened life expectancy and complex medical needs. Bluebell Wood provides support to the whole family, both at their hospice in Rotherham, and in families’ own homes. Located in North Anston, Rotherham Bluebell Wood’s services cover all of South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire.
Fundraising activities completed and planned include:
To start our fundraising journey, I personally completed the Velocity challenge and raised just over £200. This challenge entailed taking a 133 mile per hour trip on the world’s fastest zip line at Velocity Zip Wire in Penrhyn Quarry, North Wales! I thought the experience was terrifying and exhilarating!
In addition, Phil Brown, Product Group Manager and William Yexley, Factory Operative had their chests waxed on Monday 5th March raising over £400.
We’ve got a company wellbeing initiative planned and we’re going to take part in the Bluebell Wood Color Dash in April. Our HR business partner, Kaaren Allen, is going to do a Wing Walk in July, and I’m sure there will be plenty more adrenalin-filled moments as the year progresses. As long as an idea raises money for Bluebell Wood, I’m sure someone at Trelleborg will be willing to give it a go.
We will also be hosting a Pedometer Challenge in Q3 & Q4 for our employees and the entry fees will be donated to the charity. Contact me if you would like to get involved.
