Trelleborg Discusses Maritime Safety at PIANC Vietnam Seminar

PIANC Vietnam Seminar

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation discussed the role of port and terminal equipment optimization in enhancing maritime safety at a two-day PIANC seminar, held in July at the Hotel Continental Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Organized by Trelleborg’s marine systems operation, Surbana Jurong and KASI Malaysia, the seminar discussed the latest in planning and design, marine risk assessment and vessel traffic management technology. This saw Trelleborg’s Regional Sales Manager for marine fenders in Asia, William Tan, discuss the role of advanced marine fender systems in port, terminal and vessel safety.

Trelleborg’s Sales Director for docking and mooring for China and SEA, Ron Lee, presented a case study and highlighted how port safety can be further enhanced by taking a holistic overview of operations, and by implementing a complete port solution incorporating predictive environmental monitoring and an integrated Port System. Following the seminar, visitors received a tour of the Saigon International Terminal along the Cai Mep Thi Vai River, which uses Trelleborg Super Cone Fenders, SCK Cell Fenders and bollards.

Richard Hepworth, President of Trelleborg’s marine systems operation, says: “To be involved in the seminar is a real privilege, and testament to our industry expertise and reputation as a world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced navigation, piloting and port systems, and use of state-of-the-art software and smart technology to help pilots and ports optimize safety and efficiency in their day-to-day operations.”

There were almost 70 people in attendance at the seminar, including a number of PIANC representatives. PIANC’s Mr Tran Minh Thuan presented and gave an introduction to the organisation. Mr Tran is the Head of International Cooperation & Pilot Management Department in Southern Maritime Safety Corporation in Vietnam.

Trelleborg also was platinum sponsor for PIANC’s AGA in June. The Annual General Assembly (AGA) is a global summit, this year held in Cairns, where key PIANC personnel and interested parties from across the world gather to review the years' output and progress by each of the Commissions, the coming years' program, as well as the organisation’s financial outcomes.

The AGA was held concurrently in Cairns with the Young Professionals (YP) program. The YPs now have the largest number of participants of any Commission in PIANC. Whilst relatively new, YP-Com continues to grow at an incredible rate and is solely focused on bringing together maritime industry professionals under the age of 40 to facilitate knowledge sharing, networking and an outlet to contribute in the industry's development.

Trelleborg sees great value in continuing to connect with and support the next generation of maritime engineers thorough the PIANC YP-program.
