Application: Special needs pacifier for infants with split gum disease

Challenges:

• Producing the pacifier in one single piece
• Combining two different hardnesses and colors of silicone in one single process step to avoid the potential risk of bacteria build-up and contamination at the joint

Solution:

2-component (2K) tool technology instead of applying conventional bonding or assembly technology, which carries the potential risk of bacteria build-up, a special 2-component tool was designed and constructed to allow the production of the composite with a single tool in a two step manufacturing process.

Full Process Automation A specially developed system of robot-server arms moves the product from one side of the tool to the other and once the composite is finished, removes the product from the tool - all fully automated and cost-effective.
