Offshore wind foundations are subject to multiple forces during their installation and operation in the offshore environment. Trelleborg’s applied technologies operation has used its extensive knowledge, skills and experience in oil and gas to develop their advanced technology, Odin SPG (Skirt Pile Gripper), designed to ensure a safe and stable platform foundation without compromising on quality.

Engineered to provide stability through a temporary retention of the jacket’s elevation position, Odin SPG is attached to the upper part of the jacket skirt pile, creating a temporary connection and gripping the piles firmly in their position on the seabed until the grout between the pile OD and jacket ID has set. The unique design has an array of critical biting teeth profiles, suitable for various pile designs. This ensures a firm grip without damaging the pile, maintaining stable working conditions and reducing platform installation issues, regardless of weather activity. 

Providing operators with a more efficient installation method and reducing any potential installation down-time, Trelleborg’s solution offers a holding capacity of between 300MT and 3,500MT and has a built-in pressure sensor to detect any loss of pressure. The main source of down-time is the in-ability to predict failure in the primary hydraulic line. If this is not detected, the cylinder will lose pressure and fail, resulting in lengthy downtime while a secondary ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) hydraulic line is activated. 

Compatible with all offshore windfarm HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) jackets, Trelleborg’s Odin SPGs are fully customizable to any pile diameters to meet the unique demands of offshore wind. 

The innovative Odin SPG technology is part of Trelleborg’s Odin Jacket leg can system, designed to encompass all the sealing needs of offshore windfarm platform sub-structures during installation, including grout seals/wipers, diaphragm closure and grout packer products.
