Our SuperSealer for March is Mike Chambers - Sales Manager for Trelleborg Groups Pipe Seals in the UK & Ireland and Key Account Manager Wavin & Pipelife. He tells us how evolving labour trends in the industry puts Trelleborg Pipe Seals in a prime position to gain market share.
Who are you?
I’m Mike Chambers, 45, Sales Manager for Trelleborg Pipe Seals in the UK & Ireland and a Key Account Manager.
How long have you worked with Trelleborg and what are your key duties in this position?
I have been working with Trelleborg Pipe Seals for 17 years now. I am responsible for developing and increasing sales both locally in the UK and Ireland and with two major key accounts across Europe.
What do you like most about working with Trelleborg?
Trelleborg Pipe Seals and the Forsheda brand have a worldwide reputation for developing and supplying first class solutions for all pipeline systems. I have enjoyed building long term relationships with our concrete, plastic and clay pipe customers in the UK as well as working closely with them to find the best solutions for their needs.
What are the key challenges you face in your job?
My main challenge is continuing to develop and build new relationships despite changing market conditions.
How do you think the business in your area is evolving? How are you preparing for this?
Existing pipelines in the UK are aging and not being replaced or repaired fast enough. As a result, the water authorities are looking for solutions which provide a longer lifetime (currently >120 years).
What’s more, customers are looking for solutions which reduce manual handling to install seals. With teams laying pipes having to lay more pipelines and multitasking, easy installation is becoming a key demand.
Trelleborg Pipe Seals - seen as the market leader in the UK for integrated concrete and plastic pipe solutions -- is well placed to offer specialized solutions which increase the lifetimes of our customers’ products whilst making life easier for the pipe installers.
Working as a partner to our customers, we are in an excellent position to offer both off-the-shelf and tailored solutions to meet our customers’ expectations.
What do you do in your free time?
I am married with three children so I enjoy spending time at home with my family. We are currently focused on finishing the renovations to our 17th century cottage and landscaping the garden.
I have also been the coach for our local junior football club for the last six years. This year, we have reached a cup final in April. I also enjoy watching most sports and having the occasional beer with friends.
