Our first “SuperSealer” for 2017, Area Sales Manager for Asia/Pacific and the Middle East for Trelleborg’s pipe seals, Jörg Garbe shares his thoughts on what Trelleborg has done to prepare for an evolving business landscape and more.
Who are you?
Jörg Garbe, 53, Area Sales Manager for Asia/Pacific and the Middle East.
How long have you worked in this position and what are your key duties?
I have been in this position since 2011 and I am responsible for business development and sales in the Asia/Pacific (Asia, Australia & New Zealand), Middle East, South Germany, Austria and Switzerland for pipe seals.
How long have you been with Trelleborg in total and what do you like most about working with Trelleborg?
I had been working for epros Umwelttechnik GmbH as an independent Sales Agent since 2000. When Trelleborg acquired epros in 2007, I was employed by Trelleborg directly and was first sent to the UK and later to Singapore to support the international team with technical expertise and training.
What I like most about working with Trelleborg is the challenge of dealing with various clients in different areas of the world. Furthermore, Trelleborg gives me a lot of responsibility and helps me to grow in my position with various excellence training programs.
What are the key challenges you face in your job?
Every client has their own business style and corporate culture, especially in our industry. To connect these clients to the organized sales structure of a multinational group such as Trelleborg is an everyday challenge; one which makes the job both interesting and exciting for me.
How do you think the business in your area is going to evolve in the future? How are you preparing for this?
I believe that Trelleborg as a group and the Trelleborg pipe seals operation, have the right strategy for sustainable growth and a healthy business. We develop high-end products that fully meet the needs of our clients and help grow their businesses. By doing so, we have acquired an excellent reputation in the market.
These facts make me confident that I, together with our sales team, will be able to successfully develop our national and international markets. I personally use every training either provided by our technical department or by Trelleborg University to improve my knowledge and skills.
Tell us about one of the quirks of your job.
In Asia, every business deal leads inevitably to a dinner. There is no way avoid this if I want to continue good business relationships. My motto when facing an unfamiliar dish is to: eat and enjoy the meal first, ask later….
What do you do in your free time?
I like to play football but coaching the local U19 football team eats up the time I have for playing on the field myself. I also look forward to all kinds of outdoor activities (such as cycling, skiing and hiking) which I enjoy with my wife, kids or friends. At home, we enjoy catching up on new TV shows on Netflix.
