Dynamic Bend Stiffeners are a fully engineered solution to protect umbilical or flexible pipelines in demanding applications where a long service life is required. Bend stiffeners are manufactured from moulded polyurethane elastomer specifically developed, qualified and tested over many years. It has a conical external profile, with a central hollow cylindrical section which allows it to slide over the end of the riser.



Dynamic flexible risers, flowlines, power cables and umbilicals may be connected to a rigid structure such as a subsea riser base or the turret exit of a floating production vessel. The presence of environmental loads will subsequently cause the 'riser' to flex about this fixed location. The flexing in combination with large axial loads may cause damage to the riser structure due to overbending and fatigue. An integral bending stiffener fitted to the riser end fitting will prevent structure damage due to overbending.
 
The dynamic bend stiffener protects the umbilical MBR under defined tension/angle combinations.
 
Advantages:
 
  • Local stiffness added to the umbilical/flowline will limit bending stresses and curvature to acceptable levels
  • The bend stiffener is manufactured encapsulating the steelwork which is designed to interface with its connecting structure

 

We specifically tailor each dynamic bend stiffener to individual requirements through modular tooling systems and specifically written software for design.
