Stakeholder dialog
Trelleborg’s stakeholder communication is to be characterized by open relationships, regular dialog, clarity and a high level of ethics.
The most important stakeholder groups are Customers, Suppliers and Partners, Shareholders and Investors, Employees, Society and Authorities. See the diagram below.
The stakeholder model can be combined with the diagram of the value chain below, which shows how Trelleborg’s key stakeholders are present within the actual operation (Employees), close to the operation (Shareholders and Investors), upstream in the value chain (Suppliers and Partners), downstream in the value chain (Customers), and in the operation’s surroundings (Authorities, Society and Community). Stakeholders in the Society and Community group include neighbors or those who live close to our sites, as well as citizens of the community at large, represented by groups such as the media, politicians, students and stakeholder organizations.
In 2009, a selection of these stakeholder groups evaluated the aspects of corporate responsibility that they consider to be most significant for Trelleborg. This type of analysis, performed for the first time in 2007, provides support for prioritizations in the CR reporting (see the results here).
Trelleborg is a member of national industry organizations in several countries, which also includes cooperation on environmental and health and safety issues. At European level, Trelleborg is a member of ETRMA, the European trade association for the rubber industry, through a subsidiary. The company participates in working groups that focus on environmental, health and safety and chemical issues. In Sweden, Trelleborg is a member of Teknikföretagen, the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries, which represents more than 3,500 engineering companies.
The diagrams below of our position in the value chain show how Trelleborg’s direct governance and influence with regard to CR issues are most evident within the actual framework of the business, but how the company also exerts influence both upstream and downstream in the value chain in relation to suppliers, customers and others, through information and other methods.
