Bulk Cargo
Bulk carrier facilities often cater for a wide range of vessel sizes and drafts. Bigger ships may use deepwater terminals that can be exposed to extreme weather and sea conditions. Some cargoes can be hazardous so berths may need additional safety features in the fenders, docking systems

- Ships need to be close to berth face to minimise shiploader outreach
- Possible need to warp ships along berth for shiploader to change holds
- Large change of draft between laden and empty conditions
- Require low hull contact pressures unless belted
- Hazardous cargoes (ie. coal) need additional safety features
