Fire Protection

There are two types of fire protection, active and passive. Active fire protection sytems are activated either mechnically or electronically. Passive fire protection refers to fire resistant compartments, for example consisting of fire resistant walls or doors.

Passive Fire Protection:

The safety aspect is a key priority in many industries and specially within the Oil & Gas sector. To meet this demand Trelleborg has developed a rubber based fire protection system named FIRESTOP.

This technology is used to protect structures and equipment against all types of fire, including the extreme conditions of a Jet Fire with temperatues up to 1400 C. The combination of rubbers flexibility and fire requirements gives ideal sealing solutions including fire resistant penetration seals.

Active Fire Protection:

ELASTOPIPE™ is a rubber based flexible piping system developed for sprinkler and deluge systems. Even the functional abilities of fire water systems can be threathened by fire, fragments from explosions and other types of impact.

ELASTOPIPE™ is fire resistant, and can even withstand jet fires with heath flux of 390 kW/m² and temperature above 1300 C. ELASTOPIPE™ is corrosion free, avoiding blocked nozzles and pipes. ELASTOPIPE™ is an innovating piping system, due to the flexibility of the system it is possible to acheive substantial reduction in the number of construction drawings and engineering hours. BP, ConocoPhillips, Statoil and Hydro supported Trelleborg during the development of this unique piping system.
