Nearly all blankets come to the end of their life because they have been physically damaged during a print run and this means stopping the press to fit a new one, which could result in half an hour of downtime on a B1 model. This will be longer if more than one blanket is damaged. With most multi-colour sheet-fed presses costing hundreds of thousands of pounds, the last thing any printer wants is downtime.
