Productivity & Energy Consumption
Printing Blankets play an important role in the press productivity. Bad paper release can cause paper breaks with costly downtimes.
With the new shaftless presses the feeding characteristics of the blanket are essential for energy consumption
Until very recently blankets were required to have a good printing quality, a good ink transfer, the right dot gain, a good release of the paper sheet or roll. With the introduction to the maket of the newspaper shaftless printing presses – that is to say with variable number of engines depending on different configurations – and the large web sizes for heat-set printing, the need of different blanket characteristics have come up.
This new blanket generation is thought in order to avoid the overheating of the engines and to allow lower power consumption. Practically speaking, the blanket should keep the cylinders’ temperature during the printing process within certain ranges and the power absorption by the engines within a range fixed by the press manufacturer.
Lower power consumption and less wastage make offset printing still one of the most evirnomental communication tools.
