Subsea

Subsea
Rubber coating

Due to the possible risk of clogging of subsea oil and gas piping, thermal insulation is both necessary and recommended, especially for subsea activities. The requirement for thermal insulation is generally governed by the temperature of the oil / gas and the distance from the subsea well to the platform or FPSO. The solution must be watertight, and able to withstand the very high hydrostatic pressures at the seabed., as well as being impact resistant and provide a long service life.

Our thermal insulation, Vikotherm is a solid rubber based coating that is practically incompressible, seawater resistant, impact resistant, very good thermal insulation properties, and also provides maximum corrosion protection. It is designed to last the life of the subsea projects of minimum 30 years and is maintenance free.

The Vikotherm insulative elastomer coating system is a development based on standard rubber technology. The material consists of a rubber elastomer chemically modified to give very high insulations properties whilst maintaining its inherent rubber properties in respect of sea-water resistance, pressure resistance, mechanical performance and temperature. The material also has a thermal insulation conductivity value of 0,13 W/m°C, and an elongation at break of >5%. The Vikotherm maximum working temperature is approx. 140°C, and can withstand an impact force of more than 15,000 joules.
