World Expo 2010
The World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China, is the largest world expo to date, with more than 200 participating countries and organizations. Swedish participation is also the largest ever.
The theme for Expo 2010 is “Better city, better life,” which refers to the achievement of better living conditions in cities and relates to the explosive growth in many of the world’s major cities.
On June 17, Trelleborg arranged a VIP-day in the Swedish Pavilion at the World Expo for more than 300 of its customers on the Chinese market. Below you can watch a short video from the VIP-day.
The Expo opened on May 1, 2010 and continues until October 31, 2010. A total of approximately 70 million visitors are expected, mainly Chinese. Sweden is one of 40 countries building its own pavilion. The Swedish pavilion comprises a 3,000 square-meter exhibition area and an average 16,000 visitors per day are expected.
Trelleborg is one of around 20 main sponsors of the Swedish pavilion and, among other activities, the Group hosted a number of days in mid-June for its employees and future employees, as well as a VIP day for Trelleborg customers on June 17. In its pavilion, Trelleborg also presents its products and solutions for infrastructure. Other companies involved in the Swedish pavilion are Ericsson, Volvo, IKEA, SKF and Atlas Copco.
The Swedish pavilion will work under the theme of “Spirit of Innovation.” The pavilion focuses on Sweden’s innovative capacity, proximity to nature and ability to improve city environments through creativity and scientific know-how. The aim is for the Swedish pavilion to feel more like a meeting place than an exhibition area.

China is one of Trelleborg’s most important markets and since 2005, Trelleborg has expanded the number of its manufacturing facilities from just one 50-percent owned joint venture to five wholly owned production units.

In September 2009, a facility was opened that manufactures products for infrastructure projects, including fender systems for harbors and dredging hoses. The unit is located in Qingdao on the east coast of China and employs around 100 people. Trelleborg also has two production units in the Shanghai area and two in the Wuxi area.
Sales in China have increased from about SEK 190 M in 2005 to about SEK 650 M in 2009. In 2009, sales increased by approximately 30 percent compared with 2008.
