Italian designer goods from used blankets

09 June 2010

Trelleborg Printing Blankets has come up with a unique idea to stop used offset blankets being sent to landfill sites.

The company has teamed with up leading Italian designer Sergio Missiaggia to produce a range of items made from used blankets.

The potential is almost endless
“Sergio was very excited on the day we first showed him the substrate that we wanted him to work with and within half an hour he made a bag that was just the right size and shape to hold a laptop,” says marketing manager Manuela Re.  “Since then he has made a variety of bags, holders, clocks, covers etc.  The potential is almost endless and every item is different because of the images on the blanket.

Reducing the impact of the litho printing process
“Trelleborg has always taken its responsibilities to the environment very seriously and being able to recycle blankets is just one way in which we are trying to reduce the impact of the litho printing process on the world in which we live.  There was a tremendous level of interest and enthusiasm for the idea at Ipex, where we displayed a selection of products on our stand.  The next step is to examine how we can produce these items on a much larger scale.”
