Marine Protection

Marine Protection Systems are a range of high performance polyethylene based construction materials for marine, wetland and other extreme environments.

This family of engineered plastics provides designers with exciting new possibilities for applications where traditional materials (timber, steel and concrete) will rust, rot or decay.

Engineered plastics also address growing environmental concerns – they are manufactured from recycled materials and can themselves be recycled at the end of their long service lives. Unlike treated timbers and some paints, they do not leach toxins. Engineered plastics do not contain any wood pulp, wood fibre or wood flour so do not rot or support fungal growth. Borers and marine growth cannot harm these materials, or vice versa.

For the heaviest duty applications, Plastic Piles and Plastic Timbers are strengthened with fiberglass reinforcing bars. Structural properties can be 'tuned' to the application by changing the size and number of bars within the matrix. Other materials such as Composite Timber are glass filament reinforced for added strength and durability. Larger Composite Timber sections can incorporate fiberglass reinforcing bars.

Trelleborg Marine Systems can help you to select a marine protection system based on our long experience of designing for harsh environments.
