Tugs & Workboats

Tug and workboat fenders work harder for longer in the most severe operating circumstances. So, choosing the right type and size of fender system becomes even more important – particularly as tugs are becoming more powerful. The key to fender selection is durability coupled with the ability to minimise hull pressure.

Trelleborg specialises in four types of fender – each type serving a particular application. These include, cylindrical fenders which are fitted to the bow/stern of tugs and usually used to push against flared hulls and in open sea conditions. Also pushing fenders providing large, grooved contact surfaces for low hull pressures and exceptional grip.

Side beltings, in the form of D, Square and Wing D fenders, are often used to protect the vessel during escort duties and when coming alongside. And finally, transition blocks are used to provide a smooth interface between side beltings and bow/stern fenders.
