Single Grommets
GET, VET and GD membrane glands include both cable and pipe glands. They are used for leading cables or pipes into installation cabinets, through walls or other thin plates or sheets. A membrane gland works both as a dust seal and a water seal. The technical properties of VET or GET membrane glands are superior to conventional GD rubber grommets.
Common properties of GET and VET
GET cable glands are available in millimeter sizes. VET products come in PG sizes. Otherwise the products share the same properties. Elastic materials make it possible to use them interchangeably, with some limitations. A GD grommet is appropriate where enclosure requirements are low and lateral offset of cable is not a problem.
Because of their construction the products have a clamping property. Their rear lip gets rolled when the cable is pulled back, locking the cable so that it cannot be pulled through.
- The rolling makes a very tight and resistant structure, owing to which the products have a high IP class. Tightness is maintained even if cable moves laterally. The difference from conventional rubber grommet is considerable: in case of lateral movement of the cable a conventional grommet may develop an open gap on the opposite side.
- The products are sealed against the cable and the plate at different points, which creates a reliable seal.
Typical technical specifications
The values are indicative. They apply to grommets made of TPE material.
- temperature range -35 – +90 °C (unstressed material)
- elongation at break 600 %
- tensile strength 8,5 MPa (according to ISO 37)
- tear strength 30 N/mm (ISO 34/C)
Materials
We manufacture elastic gaskets with an extensive selection of materials, owing to which GET, VET and GD are highly competitive. A tpe gasket is a very sensible alternative in terms of price-quality ratio where only one or a few cables need to be protected.
- EPDM rubber. Excellent weather, ozone and light resistance. High heat resistance.
- Silicone rubber. High ozone, UV and weather resistance. Very high resistance to high and low temperatures (working temperature range -50 - +200 degrees centigrade).
- CR rubber. Chloroprene rubber, high ozone and weather resistance, moderate resistance to oil.
- TPE, thermoplastic elastomer. Elastic gaskets are most often made of tpe. The tpe materials used by Mar-Con are SEBS based. Excellent weather, ozone and UV resistance.
