Civil Engineering
For bridges and viaducts Trelleborg designs, manufactures and supplies structural bearings and expansion joints. As of many of our products, the structural bearings are designed according the latest international standards, for example the European Standard EN 1337.
Structural bearings are used as structural components to provide flexible support for concrete panels, bridges and viaducts etc. These bearings need to transmit loads and accommodate horizontal movements and rotations around each axis that can occur between two structures. Design analyses will determine the scale of the forces and deformations.
Trelleborg Transflex bridge expansion joints span the space between the decking and the abutments on viaducts and bridges. They absorb movement caused by high traffic volumes, high winds and contraction and expansion from temperature variations.
Trelleborg also designs and manufactures many specifically engineered seals for other civil engineering constructions such as storm surge barriers, sluices, aqueducts, dry docks and basements.
For building construction Trelleborg supplies structural anti-vibration bearings that prevent seismic vibration and/or provide acoustic isolation. To prevent damage from earthquakes these bearings are for example used in at the 911 Emergency Operations Centre in San Francisco, USA. The acoustic bearings are used to prevent noise transmission and vibration when a building is close or even built over a subway or trainline. Our reference list is extensive and includes prestiguous objects such as the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, USA and the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, UK.
Trelleborg also designs and manufactures project and/or customer specific polymer products such as seals, bearings, rubber springs and membranes for a variety of projects. For example, Trelleborg supplied very special rubber protection for the enormous Millennium Eye in London, UK.
