Environmental Strategy
The Trelleborg Environmental Policy highlights our increased dedication to comply with national and international commitments that strive for a sustainable society in the long term. Our objective is that the activities of the Trelleborg Group shall not harm the environment or have a negative effect on human health.
Environmental aspects are being integrated into the day-to-day operations of the Group, whilst continuing to supply the customer with a world class service for anti-vibration systems.
In our research and development operations, we are striving for environmentally sound technologies, processes and products. This is particularly crucial in the development of metal degreasing and bonding adhesive application processes, both of which utilise substantial volumes of solvent.
Our company has a strategic solvent reduction plan. Already we have removed all of our solvent degrease systems. The conversion of solvent adhesive to water based bonding systems is a far more complex process, but we continue to migrate products over to these solutions.
A dedicated and rigorous testing programme has been designed to evaluate every product as we transfer to the environmentally friendly option, without jeopardising our commitment for exceptional product performance. Customer approvals of for products which have completed this programme include Scania and Volvo, who have their own internal rigorous test standards.
During the last years we have also actioned a programme to remove Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6) and replce with Trivalent Chromium (Cr3).
The programme has been catalysed by environmental demands to remove “Heavy Metals” . Initially products for Automotive and light electrical applications have been brought into line, with compliance for all our product range (unless customer specified) to be completed during 2008.
