Mechanical Seals
epros®DrainME sleeves are used to stop leakage in the pipe joint region. They cover the leaking joint with a flexible rubber seal, which is pressed against the host pipe wall by means of retaining bands on both sides of the joint.
The rubber sleeves are put up in the man-entry pipe and two steel bands are pressed from the inside against the longitudinal edges of the rubber sleeve.
The required pressure for fixing the sleeve on both sides of the pipe joint is created by increasing the effective diameter of the stainless steel bands.
There are various methods for extending the diameter depending on the system actually used:
 |
The epros®DrainME Sleeve system uses steel spacers for extending the diameter.
In a first step, the steel bands are somewhat overstretched with the help of a hydraulic press until it is possible to insert the spacers and adjust the diameter |
 |
The DRAIN Internal Joint Seal method uses wedge locks for extending the diameter.
Bolts in the wedge locks are tightened to space further apart the wedges fixed to the steel bands and thus increase the band diameter. |
Which system is used depends on the required internal pressure.
