Lateral Connection Repair
The epros®DrainLCR technique is used in trenchless sewer rehabilitation (“no-dig” applications).
It is a
sectional repair method for defective sewer pipes.
An LCR packer carrying a wrapped-around resin-wetted hat profile is pushed with air push rods or a carriage, or pulled by means of a rope, to the point of repair.
The exact position of the damage is determined beforehand by TV inspection.
The special feature of the LCR packer is that its calibration hose or carrier tube has an “extensible finger” corresponding to the angle of the lateral junction. Said finger with the inverted resin-wetted hat profile can be retracted into the packer body and then extended and inverted into the lateral by means of air pressure.
The correct positioning of the packer - the finger with the hat profile being retracted during insertion into the pipe - is monitored either with the integrated camera of the LCR-S system or with a separate camera via the lateral connection of the junction to be repaired, depending on whether the lining job is performed in a main line or in the substantially smaller diameters of house pipes.
Once properly positioned at the point of repair, the packer is inflated with compressed air. The still retracted finger is then extended towards the lateral junction und forced against the host pipe of the junction in a tight fit.
Excessive reaction resin migrates into the defective regions. This creates a permanent bond between the fibreglass of the hat profile and the host pipe. The hat profile seals the interface between the two pipe systems with its rim only, while the LCR liner in the main pipe is designed as a short liner.
The resin-impregnated LCR liners or hat profiles are cured at ambient temperature according to the resin manufacturer’s instructions. The required cure times depend on the climatic conditions in the sewer.
After complete cure of the reaction resin, the packer is deflated, the finger retracted and the packer removed from the pipe.
Finally, the repaired pipe section is inspected and documented with a CCTV camera. The leakage test shall be performed according to EN 1610.
