Paints
Microspheres are added to paints to help reduce viscosity and improve spreading characteristics. Inistial testing demonstrates that paints incorporating hollow glass microspheres also improve opacity of paint, requiring less pigment to obtain equivalent tint strength.
Most important for aircraft applications, low density Trelleborg Emerson & Cuming, Inc. microspheres are being developed to reduce aircraft weight and thereby significantly decrease fuel costs.
