Thermoplastic Engine Mounts
Using our thermoplastics in housings and antivibration components offers numerous benefits:
• Cost reductions in the region of 10%
• Reduced Life Cycle Costs of up to 15%
• Weight reductions of up to 30%
• Durability equivalent to steel alternatives due to process design
• Optimised solution for reduced vibration and acoustic performance

For some time Trelleborg Automotive has been heavily focused on rolling out global development tools to help standardise the design and validation of rigid thermoplastics for use in antivibration systems and components.
In pursuit of this goal Trelleborg has worked to customers global platform specifications to validate life cycle and endurance testing and has worked closely with the Worlds leading materials specialist BASF.
Analysis shows that the anisotropic behaviour of thermoplastics leads to significant weight savings which can be further optimised by applying Trelleborg’s knowledge of fatigue rates for thermoplastics.
What’s more, thermoplastics have lower recycling costs than metals and the required protective coatings are environmentally friendly. Trelleborg Automotives components are produced using OEM approved materials.
Using rigid thermoplastics for engine mount housings provides an immediate cost saving of up to 10%, reduced life cycle costs of up to 15% and weight savings of around 30%.
Today Trelleborg is able to offer engine mounting systems made from PA6.6 resin, for engines weighing around 200kg with 200 N.m of torque.
